Part of the city's cultural scene since the early 1980s, the Nagoya City Art Museum is an impressive facility, When visiting, you can expect to find a variety of works by both regional and international artists, such as Frida Kahlo, Jose Clemente Orozco and Diego Rivera.

Boasting literally thousands of pieces, including painted scrolls, historical ceramics and some colourful examples of lacquerware, the Tokugawa Art Museum is just a short walk away from the Shindeki bus stop, close to Nagoya Castle. The museum is most famous for being home to a priceless scroll, which is around 700 years old and only available for viewing during the month of November.

Hard as it is to believe, this museum is dedicated to the history of the humble roof tile. Nagoya has a long history as a successful tile producer and this subject is explored through a variety of displays, which are considerably more interesting than they might sound. The history of the tile from around the world is also explored, with some examples of tiles more than 1,000 years old and photographs of classic architecture that has made good use of roof tiles.
